Ich mal wieder: für alle, die auch gern mal Gaskell lesen, hier ein Ausschnitt aus dem BBC7 Newsletter:
Zitat:
It is 200 years this month since Elizabeth Cleghorn Stevenson was born (29th September 1810) in Chelsea, which was then on the outskirts of London. Due to family circumstances, Elizabeth moved to the North and was brought up by an aunt in Cheshire,
She married Wlliam Gaskell, a Unitarian clergyman, and they moved to Manchester, where the industrial surroundings gave her inspiration for her novels, the first of which was Mary Barton, published anonomously. To celebrate the life and work of this powerful social novelist, we are broadcasting a short season of her stories and novels.
